How to Use

  1. Paste Your Text — Enter or paste any text — an article, essay, blog post, or document. Longer texts with more variety produce better word clouds. Stop words (the, is, and, etc.) are automatically filtered out.
  2. Customize Options — Choose the maximum number of words (10-100), select a color scheme (Indigo, Sunset, Forest, Ocean, Rainbow, Mono), and toggle between dark or light background.
  3. Generate & Download — Click Generate to create the word cloud on canvas. The most frequent words appear largest. Download as a PNG image or copy to clipboard. Stats show word count and most frequent term.

About the Word Cloud Generator

WritePadPro's Word Cloud Generator creates a visual representation of word frequency in any text. The most frequently used words appear in larger font sizes, giving you an instant visual overview of what your text is about. It uses the HTML5 Canvas API for rendering and produces downloadable PNG images.

How It Works

The generator extracts all words from your text, removes stop words (common words like "the", "is", "and" that carry no topical meaning), counts the frequency of each remaining word, and maps frequency to font size. The most frequent word gets the largest size, and sizes scale proportionally down to a minimum. Words are then placed on the canvas using a spiral placement algorithm that starts from the center and spirals outward, checking for overlap with each previously placed word.

Color Schemes

Six built-in color schemes provide different visual moods:

Use Cases

Technical Details

The canvas size adapts to the container width (up to 900px) with a 5:3 aspect ratio. Word placement uses rectangular bounding box collision detection — each word is tested against all previously placed words before committing its position. The spiral algorithm uses incrementing angle and radius to explore outward from center. Words that cannot be placed after 500 attempts are skipped. The result is a dense, visually appealing cloud with minimal whitespace gaps.

Privacy

All word extraction, frequency counting, and canvas rendering runs locally in your browser. Your text is never sent to any server. The PNG download is generated client-side from the canvas element using canvas.toDataURL(). The clipboard copy uses the browser's native Clipboard API.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are word sizes determined?

Word size is proportional to frequency. The most frequent word gets the largest font size (up to 80px), and less frequent words get progressively smaller sizes (down to 14px minimum). Stop words (common words like "the", "is", "and") are automatically filtered out so only meaningful content words appear.

What color schemes are available?

Six color schemes: Indigo (blues and cyans — the default), Sunset (oranges and reds), Forest (greens), Ocean (blues), Rainbow (full spectrum), and Mono (grayscale). Each scheme has 8 colors that cycle through the words. You can also toggle between a dark (#0f172a) and light (white) background.

How does the word placement algorithm work?

Words are placed using a spiral algorithm starting from the center of the canvas. Each word is tested against all previously placed words for overlap using bounding rectangle collision detection. If a position overlaps, the algorithm spirals outward and tries again. This continues until a non-overlapping position is found or the maximum attempts are reached. Larger words are placed first to get center positions.

Can I download the word cloud?

Yes. Click Download PNG to save the word cloud as a high-quality PNG image. You can also Copy to Clipboard (in supported browsers) to paste directly into documents, presentations, or image editors. The downloaded image is the exact size of the canvas (up to 900px wide).

What is the maximum number of words?

You can display up to 100 words. The default is 50, which works well for most texts. Fewer words (10-20) creates a cleaner cloud with larger text. More words (80-100) shows more vocabulary but with smaller sizes. Very long texts with diverse vocabulary work best with higher word counts.

Is my text processed on a server?

No. All word frequency analysis and canvas rendering happens in your browser using JavaScript and the HTML5 Canvas API. Your text is never transmitted anywhere. The PNG download is generated from the local canvas element.
