About the Schema Markup Generator
WritePadPro's Schema Markup Generator creates valid JSON-LD structured data that helps search engines understand your page content. Properly implemented schema markup can result in rich snippets in Google search results — including FAQ dropdowns, star ratings, recipe cards, how-to steps, and product information — which significantly improve click-through rates.
Supported Schema Types
- Article — For blog posts, news articles, and editorial content. Includes headline, author, publisher, dates, and image. Can trigger rich results with author info and article metadata in Google.
- FAQPage — For frequently asked questions sections. Generates Question and Answer pairs. Can trigger expandable FAQ snippets directly in Google search results, taking up significant SERP space.
- HowTo — For step-by-step tutorials and guides. Includes numbered steps with names and descriptions, total time, and image. Can trigger how-to rich results with step previews in Google.
- Product — For e-commerce product pages. Includes name, description, price, currency, availability, brand, SKU, and aggregate rating. Triggers product rich snippets with price and star ratings.
- LocalBusiness — For local business pages. Includes business name, address (street, city, state, zip, country), phone, website, and aggregate rating. Triggers business knowledge panel information.
- BreadcrumbList — For navigation breadcrumb trails. Each item has a name and URL. Triggers breadcrumb display in search results, showing the page hierarchy.
Dynamic Form
The form fields change based on the selected schema type. Article shows fields for headline, author, publisher, and dates. Product shows fields for price, brand, and availability. FAQ and HowTo types support dynamic items — click "+ Add" to add more questions or steps, remove them with the X button. The form starts with sensible defaults and clearly marks required fields.
Built-in Validation
The Validate button performs two levels of checking: (1) it verifies the generated output is valid JSON that will parse correctly, and (2) it checks that required fields for each schema type are present. Missing required fields are reported as warnings. For comprehensive validation against Google's specific requirements, we recommend using the Google Rich Results Test after adding the markup to your page.
Privacy
All JSON-LD generation happens in your browser. Your content details are never transmitted to any server. The validation is also local — no external API calls. The generated code is a standard script tag that you copy and paste into your own HTML.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is JSON-LD schema markup?
JSON-LD (JavaScript Object Notation for Linked Data) is the structured data format recommended by Google for adding schema.org markup to web pages. It is placed in a script tag in the page head and tells search engines about the content of the page — what type it is (article, product, FAQ), who wrote it, when it was published, what it is about, etc. This can result in rich snippets in search results.
What schema types are supported?
Six types: Article (for blog posts, news articles — includes headline, author, dates, image, publisher), FAQPage (for FAQ sections — generates Question and Answer pairs), HowTo (for tutorials — includes numbered steps with names and descriptions), Product (for e-commerce — includes price, availability, brand, ratings), LocalBusiness (for local SEO — includes address, phone, ratings), and BreadcrumbList (for navigation breadcrumbs).
How does validation work?
The Validate button checks that the generated JSON is valid JSON (parseable) and that required fields for each schema type are present. For Article, it checks for headline, author, datePublished, and image. For FAQPage, it checks for at least one question. For Product, it checks for name and offers. Warnings are shown for missing recommended fields. For full validation against Google requirements, use the Google Rich Results Test tool.
Where do I put the generated code?
Copy the generated code (including the script tags) and paste it into the head section of your HTML page, before the closing head tag. Alternatively, some CMS platforms have specific fields for adding custom code to the head. The script tag with type application/ld+json is ignored by browsers (it does not execute) but is read by search engine crawlers.
Can I add multiple FAQ questions?
Yes. For FAQ and HowTo schema types, click the "+ Add" button to add as many items as needed. Each item can be removed individually with the X button. The generator starts with 2 items by default. Google recommends at least 2-3 FAQ questions for rich results.
Is this tool connected to Google?
No. The tool generates the JSON-LD code locally in your browser. It does not submit anything to Google or any other service. To verify your schema works with Google, paste the generated code into the Google Rich Results Test at search.google.com/test/rich-results after adding it to your page.
